The Forbidden Corner

"what are we doing today?"

The Forbidden Corner is one of England’s most recent follies.

The brainchild of Mr C.R.Armstrong OBE it was originally built as a private folly but due to public demand was subsequently opened.

Recently voted ‘The best European folly of the 20th century’ by The Folly Fellowship and also voted the best children’s attraction in Yorkshire’ comprising of;

A unique labyrinth of tunnels,

Chambers,

Follies

Paths and passages that lead nowhere,

Extraordinary statues at every turn

Surprises that thrills and challenges the imagination of all ages from 5 onwards

All created in a four-acre garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

The temple of the underworld, the eye of the needle, a huge pyramid made of translucent glass.

There are decisions to make and tricks to avoid, a day out with a difference which will challenge and delight children of all ages.

"i'm hungry"

The Corner Café serves most types of freshly cut sandwiches, panini’s, soup, pies, cakes etc, all sourced from local produce. All types of hot & cold drinks, ice cream. Picnic area. We can also prepare your picnic so all you have to do is collect when you arrive.

"Can I have one of those?"

The gift shop has a huge selection of traditional and unusual gifts and memento’s.

"i need a wee"

We have ladies, Gents & disabled toilets available and Baby changing facilities, both in the parking area and the café area.

We have facilities for warming up Baby food & milk

"are we there yet?"

Take the road to Leyburn, then follow signs for Middleham on the A6108 take the Coverham road across the moor past Coverham Church. Turn right opposite the cottages, through the big iron gates and carry on up through the park. The entrance is under the Clock Tower

Nearest public transport runs to Middleham, which is 2 miles away.

The Forbidden Corner is NOT buggy friendly, for very small children you are recommended to bring a baby carrier of some type. Forbidden Corner is by appointment only, visitors have to phone or visit the website to book prior to a visit or they will be turned away

1st April – 31st October and then Sundays until Christmas.

Mon – Sat 12 noon until 6pm

Sundays and bank holidays 10am until 6pm or dusk if earlier.
