Stanhope Mystery Treasure Trail
Stanhope Mystery Treasure Trail
Treasure Trails treasure hunts are a fantastic way to explore a new town or village whilst enjoying a fun walk in the fresh air.
Children love competing to solve the clues and don't even realise they are learning about the area and getting some exercise!
The answers to the clues are located on existing monuments, buildings and structures - some are easy to find, some are a little bit trickier! You can choose to solve a mystery, go on a treasure hunt or crack the code to save the world in a spy mission.
After you have completed the Trail you can enter your answer online to be in with a chance of winning a cash prize!
The Trail starts at the Durham Dales Centre on the main road in Stanhope, the A689. On the trail you will explore lots of places including a play area, heritage railway station, local shops, riverside paths and the stepping stones.
Most of our Trails are suitable for wheelchairs; please check our website for more details. Unfortunately the Stanhope Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs due to the stepped bridge over the railway.
There are many cafes and pubs along the Stanhope Trail route giving you lots of choice for eating and drinking.
There are public toilets along the route with baby changing facilities.
The start in the Durham Dales Centre is in the centre of Stanhope on the A689. Park in the Durham Dales Centre. If coming by bus use Weardale 101 stopping just outside the Centre. This trail can also be started in the middle if arriving on the Weardale Railway as the station is on the route.
Trails take around two hours to complete and can be downloaded and printed at home or ordered as a booklet to be posted from the Treasure Trails website. Going on holiday? Why not order a couple of Trails before you go? You'll have lots of fun and will see a lot more of the local area.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Stanhope Mystery Treasure Trail, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
