Shipwreck and Maritime Museum is set within a thriving craft village, and houses the largest exhibition of its kind in the whole of the UK! Packed with thousands of relics and treasures from the deep, including Spanish gold and other items salvaged from galleons, wartime submarines, and steamships!

The “Wreck and Rescue” Lifeboat museum if full of fascinating displays of antique diving equipment, the history of Isle of Wight lifeboats, plus the vintage “Queen Victoria’ pulling, sailing lifeboat from 1887, and “Langham” 1922 lifeboat.

Discover dramatic shipwreck stories, see models of ships, and learn about pirates. You an also see RNLI archive material.

You will also get the chance to see action videos of local lifeboat rescues and diving, plus displays about fishing, and smuggling! Other exhibits to enjoy include a great collection of agricultural and dray carts, a working Blacksmith’s Forge, and a Vintage Garage, which contains many old vehicles.

There are a number of activities to keep the kids entertained, including a Treasure Hunt, ‘Crack the Code”, brass rubbing, free Pirate Trail worksheets and more! We do strongly suggest you contact Shipwreck and Maritime Museum before you set off on your family day out, just to make sure they are open and to confirm admission prices, as there is nothing worse than disappointed kids in the back of your car after a long journey.
