One of the finest examples of Humphry Repton's garden design, Sheringham Park's landscape park and woodland gardens are famous for their fabulous displays of rhododendrons and azaleas.
The park is open throughout the year, and free to visit, although a car parking charge applies.
Experience breathtaking views of this beautiful landscape from the top of the Gazebo and viewing towers. The Gazebo does have 192 steps to climb, but the view from the top will be worth it…on clear days you can see as far as Wells-next-the-sea!
There are numerous habitats in the park to discover, which provide homes to a wide variety of UK wildlife, including the Firecrest (the smallest bird in the UK!), White Admiral butterflies, and even the rare Barbestelle bat! The park also has geocaches to hunt for as you enjoy the wonderful scenery, this treasure hunt can be enjoyed by the whole family, with friends, or on your own, you just need a GPS or a smart phone. (GPSs can be borrowed free of charge from the Visitor Centre.)
Most of the trails are suitable for bikes, and a bike park and lockers are available near the Visitor Centre. Dog walkers welcome, but the family pooch will need to be kept on a lead around the visitor facilities and grazing cattle.
The Bower is a great place to relax, plus it has activities for children, including minibeasting and environmental art! This is an ideal spot for families to visit, with a bug hunting area, pond, and flower meadow providing great places to look for wildlife.
All year round a walk round Sheringham Park with the kids is really uplifting!! The first time you go there you wonder why you haven't done it years ago. There are lots of great walks and paths with amazing views of the local area (and a great viewing tower) and if you time it right when you get to the sea view you can catch the Poppyline Steam train going past - the kids love that!! Rob
It may be worth checking out Sheringham Park's website to see if there are any special events or seasonal fun things to do that may be going on during the day.
