Scarborough Harbour Treasure Trail
Treasure Trails are a fun way to explore an area.
Once you have purchased a Trail booklet, you can start any time. Simply follow the clear directions, solving clues along the way. Your answers will help you to solve the mystery and complete the Trail.
Clues are found on existing buildings, structures and monuments. Some answers are easy, some are a little trickier! You can choose to solve a mystery, go on a treasure hunt or complete a spy mission to crack the code.
After you have completed the Trail, you can check your answer online and if correct, you will be entered into a cash prize draw!
The Scarborough Harbour Treasure Trail is approximately 2 miles long and takes around 2.5 hours to complete. Trails can be bought online where they can be downloaded instantly or posted to you in booklet form. They are also available to buy at Tourist Information.
You won’t need to enter any private property or pay any admission fees to complete this Trail.
There are many cafes, restaurants, pubs and refreshment stalls along the seafront. Fresh seafood, fish ‘n’ chips and ice-cream are all in plentiful supply.
Toilets are available near the start of the Trail, along the seafront and just before the Market Hall which is past the halfway point.
The Scarborough Harbour Treasure Trail starts at the Toll House next to the harbour on South Bay in Scarborough. Nearby parking is available along Marine Drive north of the harbour or in the West Pier or Quay Street Long Stay car parks. However, at busy times, use any Long Stay car park in the town centre or make use of the Park and Ride facilities. Parking is clearly signed from all major approaches to the town. Scarborough is also accessible by train and is served by buses from nearby towns.
The Scarborough Harbour Treasure Trail takes you right past the beach so bring a bucket and spade and a picnic and make a day of it! The Trail also finishes outside the castle which is well worth a visit (English Heritage, admission times and charges apply). This Trail is suitable for light pushchairs only. Regrettably, it is not wheelchair friendly due to steep gradients along the route.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Scarborough Harbour Treasure Trail, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
