Sango Bay

"what are we doing today?"

Sango Bay
Situated in Scotland’s first European Geopark, the beach at Durness is Scotland's northernmost point, a secluded and sheltered beach accessed by a single road.
The sandy beach has rocky outcrops (good for building striking sandcastles on) but it's a safe swimming spot if you're sensible and the exceptionally clear waters are very popular with surfers.

There is no lifeguard cover.
A little further east is Smoo Cave, located at the entrance to a steeply walled inlet. The intrepid might fancy a trip deep into the first chamber, and to see the underground waterfall inside the second chamber form the viewing platform. The third chamber is only accessible by boat.
You'll invariably find a geologist or two examining the rocks at Sango Bay, which are a part of an unusual formation called the Moine Thrust Belt, and the views form the cliffs are spectacular.
There are no immediate facilities but the village nearby will supply most things you'll need, like loos!

Postcode given is for satnav to get you close, but please do plan your journey independently.
