Sandwood Bay
Sandwood Bay
You have to walk 4 miles from Blairmore along a rough inland track with no sign of sand nor sea until you reach the top of the steepest ridge - then the mile long dune backed bay of pinkish sands opens up before you, flanked by cliffs at either end.
Huge Atlantic rollers crash onto the shore here making this a popular spot for surfing, though there is no lifeguard cover and swimming is not recommended due to a dangerously strong undertow.
The address given is for near the car park, but please be aware of the great distance between this and the beach and plan your journey independently.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Sandwood Bay, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
