Puzzlewood
Puzzlewood is a unique and magical destination in the beautiful Forest of Dean.
You can explore one mile of pathways winding through deep gulleys of moss covered rocks, over wooden bridges and through fantastic tree and rock formations, all set in 14 acres of ancient woodland.
What is the magic of Puzzlewood? Could it be the maze of pathways winding between the moss covered rocks, the twisted roots of the Yew trees or the bridges and lookouts that you have to find on your way round?
You will find Puzzlewood to be an enchanting place. It has an atmosphere quite unlike any other wood you will have visited. Once in Puzzlewood you will imagine that you are in a fantasy film, and that fantastic creatures lurk round every corner.
Puzzlewood has been used used as a location for the BBC1 productions of Merlin and Dr Who. JRR Tolkien is reputed to have taken his inspiration for the fabled forests of Middle Earth from Puzzlewood, and it is easy to see why.
In addition to the wood, there are animals to see, including miniature Shetland ponies, pygmy goats, plus donkeys, wild fowl and Highland Cattle.
Cafe serving hot and cold drinks, ice creams, paninis/rolls and locally made cakes. Childens lunch boxes available. Picnics welcome
Pocket money toys, gifts and locally made crafts.

Happy to warm bottles and food but no special provisions available.
Half a mile from Coleford on the B4228 towards Chepstow.
Sensible walking shoes.
Puzzlewood is a unique attraction, and a gem of a find. We took our 3 year old daughter there and she loved it. I would not recommend for anyone younger or very old as the steps are slippery, uneven and steep and it's too dangerous to treat as an adventure playground so children should stay supervised. However, the scenery is stunning, just walking the paths children will find exhausting but entertaining and the extras (horses, animals, mazes and playground) give plenty more opportunity to add to your visit. It certainly isn't a full day out but with another attraction only 100 yards away, visiting the two together would be. Great find, will be back again in a few years.
