Prestongrange Museum
Prestongrange offers audio tours, guided tours and visits to the Beam Engine and Powerhouse.
Children can take a trail sheet around the site and play in the children's area indoors where there are toys, books and games.
When sunny weather hits, dive into our outdoor games basket and see what you can find!
During the summer season, we offer many summer activities and have an annual family activity day.
Check the website for details.
The Powerhouse houses temporary exhibitions. Check our website for more information.
Prestongrange offers a modest cafe serving tea/coffee and snacks. We have an outdoor picnic area and families are welcome to bring their own food to eat outside.
Prestongrange has a wide range of pocket-money friendly toys including soft toys, puppets, pencils, stickers, jigsaws, skipping ropes and more. We also sell a range of books covering the industries of Prestongrange, local interest and books relating to our current exhibition programme.
Toilets including a disabled toilet are located in the visitor centre. There are boost steps in the bathrooms for toddlers.
Baby changing facilities and a baby chair.
Prestongrange is located on the coast road between Musselburgh and Prestonpans, on the John Muir Way coastal path, just eight miles from central Edinburgh.
It is served by buses (Lothian buses #26) in both directions and there is a stop just outside the museum. Car parking is available on site.
Prestongrange welcomes dogs as there is ample outside space for dog-walking. Although the Visitor Centre is indoors the main site is outside. On cold or rainy days please bring wellies and scarves! On sunny days, why not bring your own picnic to have on the bank where you can see Fife on clear days.
Many families like to cycle and the John Muir coastal path is across the road from the museum ‚– why not stop in for some refreshments and a rest!
