Pooh Corner
Pooh Corner is the 'Gateway' to Pooh Country and gives information about the locations of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories and the famous Poohsticks Bridge.
Mike Ridley created Pooh Corner in 1978. He met Christopher Robin Milne on a number of occasions and has spent the last 28 years promoting Pooh Country for all Pooh Fans throughout the world so that they can enjoy a visit to this beautiful area - for free.
Pooh Corner
Most of us can relate to one of the characters in the A.A.Milne's books – Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. But whether you are a bouncy Tigger, nervous Piglet, bossy Rabbit or a gloomy Eeyore you are bound to enjoy a trip to Pooh Corner.
The 300-year-old fa§ade of this little shop belies the extent of the interior. Not so much a Tardis, transporting the traveller into the future but an Alice-in-Wonderland adventure for fans of Winnie-the-Pooh. This surprising establishment is home to the world's largest collection of 'Pooh-phernalia'. This word is not yet listed in the Oxford dictionary but it rather aptly describes the thousands of different items to be found featuring Pooh and his well known friends: Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Rabbit, Kanga & Roo, Owl etc. and of course Christopher Robin.
If you plan to visit the actual 'Pooh Places', call in to Pooh Corner first and Pick up your FREE Map before you start your 'EXPOTITION' to find them.
Pooh Country
Pooh Corner is also the 'gateway' to Pooh Country. This is the name given to the area, all within the parish of Hartfield, where A.A.Milne set his Winnie-the-Pooh stories. When his son, Christopher Robin, wrote his autobiography he called it "The Enchanted Places". There's Galleons Lap, Where the North Pole Was, Roo's Sandy Pit, Poohsticks Bridge and the memorial stone to A.A.Milne and E.H.Shepard known as The Enchanted Place. The parish stretches into the beautiful Ashdown Forest where most of them can be found.
If you visit
There are no charges to visit Pooh Corner or any of the real Pooh Places and they are open to the public throughout the year. If you decide to find the famous Poohsticks Bridge and follow in the footsteps of Christopher Robin, first check out the 'Official Rules for Playing Poohsticks' – there's a rather clever way to win! Oh yes, and don't forget to take your 'EXPOTITION' certificate with you to tick off the places you visit so that you can return to Pooh Corner and have it endorsed with a FREE gold sticker and become 'Certified'!

Pooh Country is a beautiful place to visit because you can actually find the real places mentioned in the Winnie-the-Pooh books (it is not a Disney style theme park). 2006 is a good year to call in because it is Pooh's 80th birthday year and the shop has several new products and guides as well as a FREE Wall Poster for everyone who spends over ?20. Some of the places are difficult to reach with buggies and if it is wet, some parts are muddy. To visit the shop only can take up to half an hour just to look at the items on display. A visit to Poohsticks Bridge will take about 3/4s hour depending upon how much time you spend playing Poohsticks. A visit to the other Enchanted Places can take between 3/4s of an hour to 2 hours depending upon the speed you walk, the amount of food and drink you take with you and if you meet any Heffalumps or not!
If you've had fun on your family day out to Pooh Corner, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
