Attraction Information
The Pittencrieff House Museum is a treat for kids of all ages with immersive exhibitions and cool bits to explore, with loads to learn if you have the time.
There is a fully accessible exhibition called Magic of the Glen on the ground floor. A story involving fossils and furry creatures covering 350 million years, the Magic of the Glen section also features fabulous photographs of the buildings in the Park and normal people at play. The 3D model of the Glen shows just what a dramatic landscape this is and is great for inspiring imaginative kids.
Children can hunt for Calum the Cartoon Cockroach whose ancestors lived at the time when coal was still growing in tropical swamps. A fun access to the educational side!
A free self guided walk leaflet is available from the Museum to help you get the most from the trip, or just let the kids lead and follow their interest!
To extend your adventure a little further, St Margaret's Cave is also managed by the museum and conveniently situated nearby in Glen Bridge car park and is open throughout summer for a bonus bout of exploring! When you descend into the depths it can be quite affecting, with the haunting sound effect of monks singing, it's nicely atmospheric and you can feel the weight of centuries of Dunfermline's history but be warned that it might be too much for small nervous types!
