Attraction Information
Pendon Indoor Model Village and Railways is an excellent place to learn interesting information about the beautiful rural landscape in the 1920s and 30s using the most detailed and accurate models possible. Plus you can discover details of the railways of the time and how they operated.
Your visit will start with a general introduction that covers the history of the exhibit. The friendly volunteer staff are there to make your visit as enjoyable and informative as possible, and will be only too happy to tell you more about anything you see at the Museum.
The informative and interactive tour takes about 90 minutes, and covers 3 indoor galleries. The 1930s Madder Valley Railway is very fragile and can only be run on a few pre-announced days during the year, but there is a short video and lots of information to read when it's not running.
The Dartmoor Scene is a West Country landscape across a classic Brunel viaduct that features a variety of trains running through it. You can get very close to the models, which gives you a great opportunity to admire the incredible level of detail, plus there is always live commentary.
The Vale Scene occupies most of the upper floor, and has been built to a meticulous standard of accuracy. It is full of realistic people, wildlife, and machinery, and they provide binoculars so that you can see everything! The guides are always on hand to provide background information on the models, and their geographic, historical, and social context.
