Old Aberdeen Treasure Trail
Children love competing to solve the clues in a Treasure Trail and don't even realise they are learning about the area and getting some exercise!
The answers to the clues are located on existing monuments, buildings and structures: some are easy to find, some are a little bit trickier!
You can choose to solve a mystery, go on a treasure hunt or crack the code to foil the baddies’ plans in a spy mission.
After you have completed the Trail you can enter your answer online to be in with a chance of winning a £1000 cash prize!
Old Aberdeen’s circular walking Trail starts at Seaton Park, passes St Machar’s Cathedral then explores the historic grounds of Aberdeen University.
Several buses stop run along King St which is a short walk from Seaton Park.
The Old Aberdeen Trail is suitable for light pushchairs but regrettably not wheelchairs.
As Old Aberdeen is an historic area there aren’t any cafes or family friendly pubs on the route. There are however cafes and restaurants on nearby King Street.
Toilets are located in Seaton Park at the start (and end) of the Trail. (Please note the Trails are circular)
The Old Aberdeen mystery Trail starts in Seaton Park off Don Street near the Bridge of Don end of King Street (A956).
Treasure Trails take around two hours to complete and can be downloaded and printed at home or ordered as a booklet to be posted from the Treasure Trails website. Going on holiday? Why not order a couple of Trails before you go? You'll have lots of fun and will see a lot more of the local area. Regrettably the Trail is not suitable for wheelchair users as there is uneven ground to be negotiated during it.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Old Aberdeen Treasure Trail, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
