Nottingham Heroes and Villains Tour
Nottingham Heroes and Villains Tour
The Nottingham 'Heroes & Villains' walking tour is an entertaining introduction to the 'real' stories of Robin Hood and many other famous characters associated with Nottingham.
Our stories cover the Nottingham Castle area, Brewhouse Yard and the Trip to Jerusalem, the medieval street plan, the old Market Square and Goose Fair, the Lace Market, St Mary's, the old Shire Hall and more! Nottingham has some very colourful literary connections (Byron, Lawrence, 'Peter Pan') which we explore.
If you live near Nottingham, you may have visited the City countless times, and yet never really noticed some of the fantastic Disney-like architecture just above the shop fronts! Access permitting, we also visit ancient sandstone caves at The Salutation Inn and discover the very reason for Nottingham's existence. Robin Hood is associated with many locations in the City and his tales are woven around those of our other Heroes and Villains.
Our Guides are in costume and our tours are run with the flair and style we have made our own on the Nottingham Ghost Walk. The Heroes and Villains Tour takes 1 and half to 2 hours and we (gently) walk about 2 miles.
The tour takes place in Nottingham City centre, so depending on the time of day, there are various pubs, eateries, coffee shops and so on available. There are no scheduled stops for refreshments on the normal tours though!
Public facilities in the City centre.
The Nottingham Heroes & Villains Tour starts at The Salutation Inn on Maid Marian Way. This is about 300m from Nottingham Castle, which is signposted on all major roads into the City. There are several multi-storey car parks within a few minutes walk. The Salutation is about 3 minutes walk from Broadmarsh bus station and about 8 minutes walk from Nottingham Railway Station. Nearest tram stop is the Market Square, about 4 minutes walk away.
The Tour takes place mainly in the open air on the streets of the City, so come prepared for the weather: umbrellas, sun hats, whatever! The tour is around public streets so most areas are wheelchair accessible. However, unfortunately there is no access for wheelchairs, or those with walking difficulties, to the caves.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Nottingham Heroes and Villains Tour, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
