North Yorkshire Moors Railway
North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Britain’s most popular Heritage Railway carrying over 300,000 passengers a year.
Travelling through 18 miles of beautiful North York Moors National Park from the market town of Pickering to Grosmont, calling at Levisham, Newtondale, and Goathland. The village of Goathland is better known as Aidensfield in YTV’s popular Heartbeat series and was featured in the first Harry Potter film as Hogsmeade.
On many days throughout the year you can now continue your journey along the scenic Esk Valley to our newest destination of Whitby the historic seaside port with beautiful sandy beaches and attractions.
2006 saw a welcome return to some steam services between Grosmont and Whitby recreating a steam link that had been lost for over 40 years. During the season of 2007 more regular services are operating, and with over 105 operating days scheduled visitors can take the opportunity to combine the moors and coast in one great day out.
A day on the Railway offers more than just a ride on a steam train, with beautifully restored period stations, shops, refreshment rooms, locomotive viewing sheds, historical information, attractive walks, countryside and the coastal resort of Whitby. Whatever you want from a day out you’re sure to find it on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Special events are run throughout the year, appealing to all ages and visitors - not just heritage enthusiasts. 2007 Events include LNER Festival, Steam Gala, Diesel Gala, Moors in the 60’s, Vintage Vehicle, Day Out With Thomas, Wartime Weekend, Wizard Weekend and Santa Specials.
