About

Newport Roman Villa is fondly known by historians as a '1,700 year old country pile'! Discovered in 1926 by a man innocently digging a hole, further excavations revealed extensive remains of a late Romano-British farmhouse built back in 280 AD!
There are recreated scenes within the villa to help kick start the kids' imaginations and also outside there is a replanted Roman herb garden with the same contents as nearly 2,000 years ago! You'll also find an education room with family activities to get stuck into plus a free quiz sheet for kids: what did the Romans ever do for us? (Other than the aqueducts!)
The well-preserved remains at Newport Roman Villa provide a fascinating insight into country life in third century Britain that you simply won't get anywhere else, so it's invaluable for kids covering the period at school.

The Villa has a beautifully preserved bath suite with vintage under floor heating and the remnants of stunning mosaic floors too. You can also find out loads more about the region's experience of the Roman occupation by exploring the exhibition areas, with interesting information panels plus displays interesting artefacts found on the Isle of Wight.
It may not be accurate, but we've heard a rumour that if one arrives in a Toga and on a bicycle, one gets 30% off admission fees! Being frugal was never more fun!
