About Newport Roman Villa

Newport Roman Villa is fondly known by historians as a '1,700 year old country pile'! Discovered in 1926 by a man innocently digging a hole, further excavations revealed extensive remains of a late Romano-British farmhouse built back in 280 AD!

There are recreated scenes within the villa to help kick start the kids' imaginations and also outside there is a replanted Roman herb garden with the same contents as nearly 2,000 years ago! You'll also find an education room with family activities to get stuck into plus a free quiz sheet for kids: what did the Romans ever do for us? (Other than the aqueducts!)
