Nene Valley Railway offers more than just a train ride at this fantastic heritage railway that has something for the whole family.
Throughout the summer weekends you will find a vintage bus (or two) working from Wansford station, or the Travelling Post Office carriage set demonstrating how mail used to be moved and sorted at night. At other times you will see both steam and diesel traction working alongside each other. Because they're an international railway you'll also see locomotives and coaching stock from across Europe, a unique offering from NVR!

Nene Valley Railway is the UK’s leading international steam attraction, based at Wansford Station, and covering the stations of Overton (for Ferry Meadows), Orton Mere, Yarwell Junction, and Peterborough.
As both a living heritage railway, which is tended to by its loyal band of volunteers, and a thriving attraction for the public to enjoy all year round, Nene Valley Railway offers the chance to experience the thrill of riding a steam engine; learn about the railway’s history; and explore the picturesque surroundings of the Nene Valley area.
The 0-6-0T engine No 1800 was built by Hudswell Clarke in 1947, around the time that Rev. W Awdry wrote his second book in which Thomas appeared. The little blue engine spent its entire working life at the British Sugar Corporation factory in Peterborough, pushing wagons of sugar beet up an incline until the day came when a diesel engine replaced the steam power of Thomas. The Peterborough Railway Society purchased this delightful little engine on 9th September 1973 and he was moved to the Nene Valley Railway, where he has since delighted his friends and children of all ages.
Our platform is open 7 days a week, our cafe is open Wednesday to Sunday and our trains run every Saturday & Sunday Mid-February to October, Wednesdays Easter to September and Thursdays during the school summer holidays.
