Miniport at Gunwharf Quays
The Miniport at Gunwharf Quays is your chance to captain your own motorised ship.
After a short briefing you will put on a lifejacket, descend the steps into the dock area and in no time will be steering out between the buoys and setting course for the lighthouse!
We have various ships in our fleet, including some brand new ones for 2012. Control your speed and direction carefully to avoid other ships and see if you can spot the submarine or the giant fish lurking in the depths. The odd pirate has even been seen!
We are surrounded by a very wide range of restaurants, kiosks and other leisure facilities. There are also plenty of seats where you can consume your own food.
At Gunwharf Quays there are a very wide range of eating options to choose from.
There is no souvenir shop.
Full toilet facilities within Gunwharf Quays include baby changing facilities very close nearby.
A number of the surrounding restaurants can provide milk-warming facilities.
The M275 brings you directly in to Portsmouth, and the brown signs for the Historic Waterfront lead you straight to Gunwharf Quays underground car park. Portsmouth Harbour train station, the Hard Bus Interchange, the Gosport Ferry and Wightlink foot-passenger terminal are only 5 minutes walk away. A short drive takes you to the Isle of Wight Car Ferry terminal, and Gunwharf Quays is only 10 minutes drive away from the cross-channel ferry terminal. Please see our website for a map.
All ships captains and mini-captains receive a fun briefing on how to drive the ships, look after their crew and navigate to best effect. Listen carefully to the briefing, and make sure your crew are smiling all the time whilst afloat! Special clothing is not required; buggies can be parked safely within the enclosure. The activity is suitable for those with a range of learning disabilities, with appropriate support, but there are stairs down to the Miniport. Wheelchair access is therefore not possible at this time.
