National Dragonfly Project

"what are we doing today?"

National Dragonfly Project

These beautiful and fascinating creatures are still relatively unknown and unstudied.

For example, did you know that Britain has about 40 species of dragonfly and damselfly? Sadly, there used to be three more species but suitable sites for them to live and breed are reducing daily, hence these tragic extinctions.

It's time to give dragonflies a helping hand. That's why we originally set up a Dragonfly Sanctuary, then a BioMuseum, and now the new Dragonfly Project. It's a place where people can come to find out more about dragonflies and damselflies, and eventually get involved in research projects. There is so much that is still unknown about these amazing creatures. What we do know is that they are not only good to look at, but they also provide a service by eating midges, mosquitoes and gnats, as well as other insects we would prefer to be without! They don't sting, and are fantastic fliers, performing wonderful aerial acrobatics on sunny days.
