Mrs Smiths Cottage
Mrs Smiths Cottage Museum preserves the home, the life and the times of Hilda Smith who bought the cottage in 1922 and lived there until 1995 when she died aged 102.
There are no modern appliances, no bathroom and no kitchen as we know them, and only a ladder to the upstairs bedrooms. This is how great-grandma lived in a simple rural cottage, keeping her garden neat, feeding the pigs and spending all day on Monday doing her washing.
We have fun Victorian clothes for kids to dress up in during your tour, a quiz to look for all the old fashioned gadgets (can you find the posser and the dolly?) and simple old toys in the gift shop. During the autumn we do crafts such as making rag-rugs and lace. At Xmas time we serve hot mince pies from the range and Santa visits the cottage.
No refreshments on site but tea shop and pub close by.
A variety of old fashioned trinkets and household goods, childrens toys from past times, booklets about the life and times of Mrs Smith.
No toilets available in this small museum but pub toilets available across the road.
Mrs Smiths Cottage is located at 3, East Road, Navenby just off the main A607 between Lincoln and Grantham. A half hourly bus service runs between Lincoln and Grantham.
Mrs Smiths Cottage is OK for buggies but you'll have to clamber up a ladder with mom or dad to reach Mrs Smiths bedroom - and watch your head on the beams if you're more than 5ft9in tall! Wheelchair access to ground floor of the cottage and heritage centre only.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Mrs Smiths Cottage, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
