Attraction Information
Mountfitchet Castle is a fun and educational open-air museum where you and yours can travel back in time over 900 years and witness life in a cool medieval Motte and Bailey castle, the only recreational site in the world to exist on the same site as the original!
Explore the Castle itself and roam around the Norman village hidden behind the imposing castle walls, wandering in and out of the recreated houses, smelling the log fires and feeling the atmosphere of a long passed lifestyle. Very educational and very cool at the same time!
You can also meet and hand feed the tame Fallow deer and many other rescued animals that now roam free around the scenic 10 acre site, so the family hound can't come along on this one, so long as they're eel behaved and you're well stocked with baggies!
Plus The House on the Hill Toy Museum is included in your entry with over 80,000 toys, books and games on display from late Victorian times up to 1990s with hands-on activities throughout the museum including puppet theatre, Quiots, Lego and Brio tables.
There's also the Haunted Manor feature (additional charge applies and bravery required) bewitched tunnels and chambers to explore! And they've also got the Rock ‘n' Roll exhibition celebrating the golden era of the 1960's and 70s, the WWI and WWII Blitz and Battle of Britain with helmets and masks to try on. What an amazingly varied day out!
