About Middleton Railway

Middleton Railway started in 1758, and is the oldest working railway in the world! They have a purpose built Engine House, with ticket station, and museum, where you can explore how locomotives and industrial railways have developed.

The first thing you will see as you enter the Engine House building is the ticket office. Once you purchase your ticket, you'll head to the Introductory Gallery, where there's displays to tell you why Middleton Railway is so historically important, and to explain its link with the locomotive building industry in the area.
