Lynton and Barnstaple Railway
The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway currently offers a fantastic train trip with stunning scenery at great value, all packed into a half hour ride – so not too long that the kids get bored!
On many days there is the chance to get up close to a real steam engine – maybe the kids might like to take a peek on the footplate while you take their picture?…
At Woody Bay Station there's a chance to grab a snack or get a drink in the tearooms and garden, or maybe even get a sneaky peak in the well stocked gift shop.
Tearooms and summer tea garden serving good value hot and cold food, cakes, snacks and drinks. Cold drinks, snacks and ice cream are available through the shop.
In warmer months we even have some healthy eating ice cream on offer! Please discuss any special requirements with staff and they will be pleased to help find make a suitable selection.
The shop stocks everything from postcards, camera film and snacks, to cuddly toys, souvenirs, local history books, DVDs, Thomas, and more. There is also a cosy 2nd hand book shop.
Disabled toilet and baby changing facilities are available on site.
Milk or baby food can be warmed in the tearooms kitchen at visitors' request.
The station is located between Lynton and Blackmoor Gate on the A39. If travelling by car from the M5, turn off at Jct27 and follow the North Devon Link Road towards Barnstaple. At South Molton take the A399 towards Lynton & Combe Martin, then follow the A39 from Blackmoor Gate to the railway, located just beyond Parracombe.
On public transport the railway can be reached using the 309 or 310 bus from Barnstaple / Lynton. The railway is also served by the 300 coastal service from Ilfracombe/Combe Martin and Minehead.
The railway is great to visit in all weather. Buggies are welcome, although probably won't fit on the train – but can be left at the station for when you return.
Keep a special look out through the year for any events, as these are particularly good value with many extra free attractions from music entertainment to face painting!
