The IMAX Cinema is part of one the country's most exciting visitor attractions, right in the heart of Birmingham.

For excitement, scale and sheer sensory overload nothing comes close to the IMAX experience. With a screen as high as a five storey building and as wide as four buses nose to tail, 2D presentations are spectacular enough, but the special 3D films will have people reaching out to touch the images on the screen. The crystal clear picture and 42 speakers of digital surround sound ensure a truly captivating experience. You'll never look at a trip to the cinema in the same way again!

Some films are made using IMAX DMR technology. This is a process by which a conventional 35mm cinema film is digitally re-mastered into IMAX's larger-than-life format.

Each individual 35mm frame is converted to high res digital format; the IMAX DMR software then removes the 35mm grain structure and creates an enhanced IMAX version with incredible visual clarity. Once the process is complete, the film format is 10 times larger than its original size!

Please note: Some 35mm films are shot at a different ratio which may mean that the IMAX screen is not entirely filled once converted.

The IMAX Cinema houses a fully licensed bar that sells hot and cold light snacks.
