"what are we doing today?"

The Harrington Aviation Museums comprise the Carpetbagger Aviation and Secret War Museum and the Northamptonshire Aviation Society Museum.

These museums offer a rare look at life on this Top Secret base of the 801st/492nd American Eighth Air Force Bombardment Group during World War 2.

Photographs and exhibits vividly present details of Operation Carpetbagger and the secret war carried out by the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) and the American Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in supplying resistance groups in Occupied Europe with weapons, equipment and secret agents from both Harrington and Tempsford airfields during World War 2; The Thor IRBM nuclear armed rockets that were at Harrington during the 1959-63 Cold War period; The history of the Harrington airfield; The Royal Observer Corps from its inception in 1925 through to it's stand down in 1991; air war and the Home Front in Northamptonshire along with other items of similar interest.

There is a canteen selling a variety of beverages and snacks. There are no cooked meals available. Picnic area.

"Can I have one of those?"

Books, mugs, pens, postcards, model aircraft and vehicles, badges, tea towels and flags.

"i need a wee"

Toilet facilities for the disabled with wide paths for access.

No baby food, but we could warm milk.

"are we there yet?"

North on the A508 from Northampton, turn right at The Swan, Lamport. Approx. 3 miles, sharp right hand bend, Harrington is straight on. South from Market Harborough, turn left in Kelmarsh. At Harrington turn right, follow museum sign. Leave A14 at J3, Follow Lamport road for approx. 2 miles. At sharp left bend turn right for Harrington. A43, at Broughton roundabout follow Harrington sign.

...got any top tips?

You can bring a picnic and use the chairs and tables on the lawn. There are woodland walks, but you might need wellies if it has been raining.
