Grimsthorpe Castle Park and Gardens

"what are we doing today?"

Grimsthorpe Castle Park and Gardens is beautiful stately home set in stunning countryside just 10 mins from the A1.

The best thing about visiting Grimsthorpe is that there is loads to do outside.

There is an adventure playground, with a wire rope slide, as well as plenty of open space to play and run around!

Grimsthorpe also has over nine miles of beautiful parkland trails which are perfect for cycling. You can bring your own bikes or hire one from our cycle shop – including tag alongs and buggies for little ones.

The route is designed for families in mind avoiding steep inclines and rough terrain.

Familes can also take part in the special family challenge and receive a family challenge pack (£5) which includes

• A handy back pack
• Challenge booklet and notepad
• Pen
• Pencil
• Magnifying glass
• Compass
• Punch card
Set off on the cycle trail (you can walk the route if you wish but it's great fun on bikes) and look out for marker posts where you will answer some questions and hunt for clues. Collect a punch mark on your card and move off to the next challenge stop. There are 12 stops in all. When you have finished, check your answers and enter our prize draw to win a mountain bike.

There is also a deer herd in a field near the car park. It's open on Sunday & Thursday afternoons. It is possible to sometimes help feed the deer (under supervision).

Grimsthorpe also has a lovely tearoom (including bottle warming facilities and childrens meals) as well as a shop.

"i'm hungry"

Grimsthorpe has a lovely Georgian Coach House which has been converted into a comfortable licensed tearoom, with seating for 54. In good weather patrons can also sit outside on benches. Lunches are served between 12 and 2.30pm. Afternoon tea, with homemade cakes, is still an essential part of historic house visiting and the tearoom serves these until 5.00pm to allow visitors to indulge in this tradition. A range of hot and cold drinks are available from 11am to 5.00pm, including a tasty and healthy range of Fruit Smoothies. There is also ample space for picnics and these can also be pre-ordered (please contact estate office for more information)

"Can I have one of those?"

There's plenty of open space to play games and our gift shop sells stuff that you can play with, in case you forgot to bring things. There are gliders, frisbees, balls, and other games. As well as childrens gifts and toys, ice creams and lollies. Plus honey harvested from the park!

It is advisable to bring wellies in the wet weather, particularly if you are planning to go cycling. Helmets are free. Grimsthorpe is not open on Saturdays. Pleas note that there are small ponds close to the castle and a large ornamental lake. Parents must surpervise small children at all times, particularly when close to open water
