Grey Mares Tail Nature Reserve
Walk behind the 60m waterfall that tumbles into the Moffat Water Valley from the waters of Loch Skene, high above in the Moffat Hills.
Recognised as a Special Area of Conservation, Grey Mare's Tail Nature Reserve is a paradise for the hill walkers, botanists and wildlife enthusiasts who come to observe the rich collection of some of southern Scotland’s most rare upland plants as well as peregrines, ring ouzels and feral goats.
Historians, too, will be interested to discover evidence of Iron Age settlers and the Covenanters who sought sanctuary here in the 17th century.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Grey Mares Tail Nature Reserve, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
