Go Ape! Matfen
Go Ape is a tree top adventure based in the heart of Matfen, nr Hexham.
We take one lush, green forest and a healthy dollop of breathtaking scenery; blend with a smattering of tree-top high wires, tricky crossings and wind-in-your-face zip wires; finished off with a liberal dose of people in search of their inner Tarzan. The result is spectacular. The Go Ape experience gets the adrenalin pumping, gets people out of their comfort zones and above all (no pun intended), it's just great fun. We hope to see you swinging through the trees soon!
Min Age: 10 years. Min height: 1.40m/4ft 7. Max weight 130kg/20.5 stones.
Baboons (under 18s) must be supervised by a participating adult. Booking essential.

The toilets are shared with the driving range and accessed by the front door next to the disabled parking bay. These are about 50m from the Go Ape cabin.
GoApe! Matfen lies a mile or two to the north of Hadrian's Wall near to Corbridge. If arriving at the site from the south, west (Newcastle-u-Tyne) or east (Hexham/ Carlisle), take the A69 to the main Corbridge turn off which will be signed for Corbridge and the A68 to Jedburgh.
Take the A68, climbing up out of the Tyne valley for a couple of miles until you reach a roundabout at the Errington Arms. This is the junction of the A68/B6318 and you will see signs for Matfen Hall from this point. Take the third exit at the roundabout (i.e. turn right) onto the B6318 which is the Roman military road which runs over the remains of the Wall. Follow this for about 2 ÃâÂÂÃÂâÂÂý miles looking for a turn off to the left, again signposted Matfen Hall.
After turning left, the road runs north in a straight line until a left/right 'chicane' just before some woodland. As the road straightens out again, look for a right turn towards the Golf Driving Range/ Par 3 course. At the end of this single-lane track, turn right into the car park and you will see the Go Ape cabin at the top of the bank. If you are at the Hall car park, you have gone too far.
There are various cross-country routes for travellers from the north, but it is best to pick up the A69 from the A1 and follow the route described above. If you happen to get a little lost, the nearest place to Matfen that is signposted widely is Stamfordham. There is a road leading from the village to Matfen village. From Matfen, follow the road past the Hall and across the golf course before turning left into the golf driving range as above.
Wear something you don't mind getting grubby and dress for the weather.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Go Ape! Matfen, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
