Attraction Information
The George Marshall Medical Museum is a fantastic and free small museum on the doorstep of Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Come and visit to explore how medicine and health care have changed over the past 250 years.
We have a recreation of a mid-19th century operation, and you can see one of the operating chairs used at Silver Street Infirmary before anaesthetics (have a go at spotting the holes for ropes to tie down unwilling patients and marks left from the surgeons' knives!). Find out about our apothecary shop with all its amazing glass jars of goodies and grab an audio guide to take you and the kids around the museum.
We have two interactive PCs where you can test your knowledge with our Mystery Object Game and listen to past medical staff speaking about their jobs in medicine and healthcare.
And don't forget our fantastic line-up of masks of the heads of hanged criminals from Worcester gaol in the very early 19th century.
The Charles Hastings Education Centre in which we are based is completely accessible for those in wheelchairs and there are audio loops in the building. Guide dogs are more than welcome.
The age rating on this listing is from 6 years plus, but parents may find smaller children may be shocked by the notions involved in some sections, do please look at the photos on the website before deciding if it's right for your kids.
