Fort Paull is the only remaining Napoleonic fortress in Yorkshire, and offers an interesting day out for the whole family, with 500 years of history to discover.
Located just outside the village of Paull, Fort Paull is set in 10 acres, with magnificent views across the Humber estuary.
This sole remaining intact example of a fortress was believes to have been completed in 1542, during the reign of Henry VIII, and possesses Henrican, Civil War and Napoleonic origins. You can learn all about the fascinating history of the fort when you visit, and a waxwork museum housed inside shows figures that have influenced the fort’s long history. You can also see various artillery pieces, and armoured vehicles.
The fort has large underground rooms and tunnels to explore, plus a large events arena. Many of the exhibits have a strong local content, making a great introduction to the area if you have never visited before. One of the most impressive exhibits at Fort Paull is the only surviving Blackburn Beverley Aircraft. Inside, you will find information about the history of the Blackburn Beverley, and details about that specific aircraft in particular. Everyone will be amazed at the massive frame of this aircraft, when you see just how much the plane could carry!
An absolute MUST for visitors to the region. The fort also plays hosts to various military reenactments from time to time which are fantastic fun and well worth watching out for!
