Formby Beach

"what are we doing today?"

Formby Beach

A completely unspoilt wild and wide sandy beach and although it gets busy with day trippers in the summer the rest of the year it's a quiet and peaceful spot.

Erosion of the sand has revealed footprints from animals and humans dating back to the late Neolithic/early Bronze Age, about 3500 to 7000 years ago, which makes for a nice educational experience too.

There is no lifeguard cover so swimming is not advised, so its much more likely you'll be exploring the local National Trust nature reserve (overflowing with red squirrels apparently) and larking about rather than lounging and bathing though you should be okay for paddling.
See our listing for the reserve for further information.
