Firemore Beach
Firemore Beach
The beach is aptly named as it offers regularly the warmest swimming on the west coast of Scotland.
Near the River Ewe, famous for salmon fishing, and warmed by the Gulf Stream, the wide, reddish sandy beach is on the shore of a sea loch opposite the tiny Isle of Ewe.
It's great for swimming, though there is no lifeguard cover, and there is a campsite by the beach on a grassy bank which is very cheap to stay at, though there are no facilities.
At the northern end of the beach there is a lovely walk along the coastline of small hamlets, inlets and a harbour to a small settlement called Cove.
There's hill walking for a every level of rambler and lots of wildlife to spot en route, including long haired Highland Cattle, golden eagles and buzzards.
Glass bottomed boat trips are available around the loch and there's excellent fishing to be had. You could also visit the sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe which are full of excitingly exotic plants.
Immediate facilities include toilets and a cafe.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Firemore Beach, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
