Take a trip on Sodor’s number one tank engine and meet Sir Topham Hatt on this spectacular day out with Thomas. It’s all aboard the famous blue steam train for a magical ride on Thomas the Tank Engine at the ELR.
You'll get to take part in Thomas-themed activities, meet your favourite characters, and you'll drive past some of the most beautiful views in Lancashire.
Just make sure you arrive at the station 45 minutes beforehand!
Things to do
Your journey will begin in Bury, just 30 minutes from Manchester City Centre, and will take you through many picturesque towns and villages along the way.
Fancy spending time in the great outdoors? You can hop off at one of the calling stations! Whether it’s Heywood’s stunning Queen’s Park, Bury’s cultural and shopping quarter, Summerseat’s walking trails, Ramsbottom’s foodie scene, the pretty village of Irwell Vale, or historic Rawtenstall with its museum and the UK’s last remaining temperance bar. Every stop is a start!
There are also special events run throughout the year so make sure to keep an eye out! You'll. have loads of fun exploring the beautiful countryside whether you're a train buff or not! It's the perfect adventure for families whatever the weather.
- There are spaces available for customers with mobility impairments including some wheelchair spaces. Wheelchair users are advised to contact the railway in advance.
- A step and wheelchair ramp are carried on all standard service trains and these are available to help you to access or leave the trains – please ask a member of staff for assistance.
- Toilets on board are small and cannot accommodate wheelchairs but there will be accessible toilets at some of the locations you will stop off at.
- Assistance dogs are allowed.
