About Doonies Farm
Doonies Farm covers 134 acres and sits on the cliff tops between the village of Cove and Aberdeen lighthouse. It is a working farm that uses mostly traditional farming methods and is home to some of the rarest breeds of sheep, pigs, cattle, goats, poultry, and horses in Britain.
The farm offers and fun and informative visit for the whole family, with a chance to learn about the preservation of rare and endangered farm animals. Did you know that Eriskay ponies are less common than pandas?! As the animals are regularly rotated, the information signs around the farm may not always be correct, but you can pick up a free information booklet, which is full of details about the animals and their history. You just need to return the guide at the end of your visit.
Hand washing facilities are available so you can scrub up after contact with the friendly farm animals, and disinfectant foot mats ensure your footwear (and buggies or wheelchairs) is clean before you leave the farm. Food and drink are not allowed in the animal contact area, but there is a picnic area within the grounds of the farm.
There is also a farm shop selling their own farm reared Tamworth pork, Longhorn beef and Portland lamb. They also have a selection of roasting joints, sausages, and much more! Farm to fork, as they say...
