Dean Heritage Centre
Dean Heritage Centre explores the history of the Forest of Dean through its fun galleries and wild and wooded outdoor site.
On a mill pond in the beautiful valley of Soudley in the heart of the Forest of Dean, the centre offers lots to do for the whole family.
There’s lots going on to keep everyone busy in wet weather including wood rubbing, charcoal drawing, mask making and woodland cottages.
Visit the Forester’s cottage and animals. Get to know the local characters and become a Victorian Forester yourself!
Being in the heart of the Forest means kids can really get their teeth into exploring the woodland, its fantastic history and rare wildlife. Follow the trails that take you deep into the forest and around the galleries.
With lots of different events throughout the year you can enjoy cider pressing on Apple Day, bow making on Poacher’s Day, falconry at Medieval Fayres and traditional Charcoal Burns in our wooded site.
Try your hand at Forest crafts at our special events: bow demonstrations, pole lathe turning, wood carving, seed planting and traditional games.
You can enjoy a picnic in our fantastic woodland location
Or cook your own dinner on our specially built barbecues using charcoal that we make on site!
Café with home–cooked food from the local area. Kids menu and child seats available.
Vegetarian available.
We have masses of toys – new and old, trinkets, fun books and activity packs to take home with you. Also local art and craft work for mom and dad.
Disabled toilets and baby changing available in café.
We can warm food and milk for babies in the café.
We are situated on the B4227 in the beautiful valley of Soudley.
The Centre is easily accessible from major motorways and is only 30 minutes from Gloucester, Monmouth and Bristol.
Make the most of the outside site and come dressed for walking.
The nearby stunning Soudley Ponds walk is suitable for buggies and fully accessible.
There is wheelchair access to most galleries and the main part of the site including the café.
Please call in advance for any special requirements or ask at the shop for details.
