Dartmouth Museum
Dartmouth Museum is a small friendly museum in an old house in Dartmouth.
It might even be haunted!
We love kids. We just can't eat a whole one! And the Henley Study has a wonderful table with microscopes you can use and things you can do whether you're 5 or 105!
We've got quizzes for kids and grownups. There's a walking trail rind the town, too. We've got really friendly volunteers to help you get the most out of your visit. Can you find our elephant?
The Oldstone Dolls House is amazing. We wish you could play with it, but it's just too precious! But you can see it.
Dartmouth Museum has no space for refreshments, but the town has a very fine selection of eateries for all budgets.
Dartmouth Museum's shop sells specialist booklets and postcards unavailable form any other source. You can also buy reprints from our massive picture archive.
Dartmouth Museum is very close to excellent public conveniences. We can handle an emergency, but the single loo on site is not normally one for our guests. We know you'll understand. We're an old, listed building and just don't have the room.
In summer you'll want to park your car in the park and ride and visit Dartmouth Museum using the link bus. In winter you'll park in the Mayors Avenue car park.
From the bus stop, stand facing The Royal Castle Hotel. Walk towards it, leaving the Boat Float (small inner harbour) to your left. In just about 30 metres you reach the fountain. Walk past it, cross the wide road straight ahead, sneak past the NatWest bank and the doorway is just as you get under the overhanging Butterwalk.
You can get here by riverboat, by heritage railway from Paignton, on foot if you're walking the South West Coast path and by bus from pretty much anywhere. Head for Kingswear and take the Ferry or for Dartmouth directly.
Dartmouth Museum is great to spend a couple of hours on a wet day, or on a dry one! So our top tip is to park in the Park and Ride and leave your worries at the top of th ehill, then come and see us. Don't forget to have a poke about in our drawers when you come! Access is hard for folk with restricted mobility. The building isn't set up for wheelchairs and buggies can be hard. We have small rooms and a spiral staircase for access.
If you've had fun on your family day out to Dartmouth Museum, tell us about it your visit, so other people will know it's a great place to go as well.
