Curious About Winchester

"what are we doing today?"

Curious About Winchester

Curious About Winchester is a journey of discovery: an exciting glimpse into what makes Winchester what it is.

But how to be sure you'll see all that there is to see? By challenging you to find the answers to a series of exceptional clues along the way! Look up, look down, look every which way, guaranteeing you won't miss anything of interest, whilst creating intrigue and fun for all the family.

How to be sure you'll sense what makes a town tick? By adding simple and straightforward stories about significant sights along the way.

We have created two unique Walks in Winchester, which can be enjoyed separately, or joined together to form one longer walk, depending upon available time and energy! They will expand your knowledge, entertain and challenge you, and help you to stay mentally and physically fit!

Cathedral Circular
From the leafy exterior of Winchester's Cathedral, this route moves quickly into the city centre, then past a Middle Ages' gate and an ancient Hall housing King Arthur's Round Table.

Arriving at a more gentle side to Winchester, with charming houses, steeped in memories, you finally return to the Cathedral for a well earned rest.

Cathedral to Gardens
Past the cathedral's choir school, and through an ancient gate, you tumble into some of Winchester's quaint and timeless streets. Take a look at Winchester College, then Wolvesey Castle, and walk alongside the River Itchen, before ending at the fabulous Abbey Gardens.

Download these walks from our website, or order a copy online.

Have fun and stay curious!

"i'm hungry"

Curious About Winchester walks pass a large number of pubs, bars, restaurants, shops and cafés. The Cathedral Café, with its pretty garden and open-air terrace, serves mid-morning coffee and pastries, delicious homemade lunches and Hampshire cream teas.

"i need a wee"

There are public toilets available along the route.

"are we there yet?"

Curious About Winchester starts outside the main entrance to the cathedral, in the centre of the city. Park and Ride facilities are good in Winchester, and there are plenty of car parks, just look upwards for the spire of the cathedral!

...got any top tips?

Buggies, prams and wheelchairs can cruise safely around Curious About Winchester. It's outdoors, so look out for the weather forecast, but there are plenty of great places to dive into, if you need some shelter!
