About Crownhill Fort

Crownhill Fort is the best preserved of Lord Palmerston's Ring of Fire which surrounded Plymouth in Victorian times, dramatically protecting the Royal Dockyard at Devonport from fierce French attack! Things to doThe largest and most original of Plymouth's forts, Crownhill occupies one of the highest points in the city and offers great views, but is still mysteriously hard to see on the approach: trust your map, it is there! Once you find it you'll find 4 fighting levels with placements for 32 cannons and 6 mortars, nearly a half mile of eerie tunnels, and concealed accommodation for 300 soldiers!
