Craven Museum and Gallery

Craven Museum and Gallery is a family friendly venue that can be found in Skipton Town Hall, and is free to visit, making it a great all weather attraction.

Discover the stories and history of the area as you explore the small but varied and impressive collections on display covering costume and art, social history, and archaeology. The collections range from the regionally important items from Elbolton Cave, to the nationally important Roebuck Art collection. Learn about lead mining and farming as you investigate full scale machinery used in woodwork and iron ore crushing, examine the first printing press used by the Craven Herald and Pioneer newspaper until 1960, and more!

There are plenty of activities for the kids that will help them make the most out of their visit, such as digging in the archaeology pit, dressing up as Victorian people or cave people, grinding corn into flour, puzzles, quizzes, and colouring. The museum holds a number of regular events throughout the year, including family craft days.

There is an exhibition gallery on the ground floor that shows a changing programme of exhibitions relating to heritage and the arts.
