City of Durham Treasure Trail
Treasure Trails are a fantastic way to explore and make discoveries whilst enjoying a family walk in the fresh air.
You’ll love working together to find and solve the clues – some are easy to find, some are a little bit trickier! You can choose to solve a mystery, go on a treasure hunt or crack the code to save the world on a spy mission. All our Trails are self-guided, you can do them whenever you like, and there’s no ‘use by’ date! After you’ve completed the Trail you can enter your answer online to be in with a chance of winning a cash prize! Trails take between one and two hours to complete (depending on which Trail you choose) and can be downloaded to print at home or you can order them to be posted to you. Click on the website link to find out more about all our Trails in County Durham and the rest of the UK. You can even personalise Trails on the website – a great idea for a birthday party. Happy Trailing!
Along the route of the City of Durham Treasure Trail there are many places to go for refreshments.
The City of Durham Treasure Trail starts in Millennium Place in the centre of Durham. There is parking here at Walkergate (DH1 1SQ) or you could use the Durham park and ride system to get there. The Trail packs include directions to wherever they start.
As you’ll be exploring the historic centre of Durham there are plenty of places to stop along the way for refreshments and toilet breaks. We recommend you wear strong shoes on the City of Durham Treasure Trail and remember to take appropriate outdoor clothing with you. Unfortunately the City of Durham Treasure Trail is not suitable for wheelchairs due to cobbles and steps. We do have other Trails in County Durham that are more accessible. Please see our website for more details.
