Chessell Pottery Barns

"what are we doing today?"

At Chessell Pottery Barns you can decorate your own beautiful pottery, supplied exclusively by Emma Bridgewater or made ourselves, in our relaxed pottery studio where plenty of help is at hand.

We have a vast range of hand cut decorating sponges with everything from dinosaurs to flowers, ladybirds, stars and fairies, so there's no need to be an artist!

During the school holidays we run themes and promotions specifically aimed at children. We display examples of decorated pottery to inspire the children's creative side and we have theme specific decorating sponges available for use. Chessell Pottery is an excellent venue for having fun with the kids during the school holidays or anytime! And it's the perfect place to make a lasting memento of your holiday! Please regularly look at our website for details of events. We also run Baby's Tuesdays every week throughout the year; every parent painting baby's footprints onto pottery receives a free tea or coffee.

Items start from as little as £4.95 plus a studio fee of £5.50 per person which covers materials, assistance in the studio, decorating sponges, as well as glazing and firing. Items are ready to collect after they've been fired within the week.

Chessell Pottery Barns is also home to an award winning, family friendly cafe serving light lunches, a delicious selection of handmade cakes, freshly roasted coffee and the Ultimate Island Cream Tea. We have a selection of toys, highchairs, children's meals and baby changing facilities to cater for families. Finally, why not browse the Gift Barn which is an Aladdin's cave for children and adults alike, selling a large range of traditional, wooden and Fairtrade toys for younger children.

"i'm hungry"

At Chessell Pottery you can choose from a range of delicious hand roasted coffees, teas, home made cakes, cookies and brownies, an array of freshly baked scones and light lunches to enjoy either whilst you are decorating or afterwards in our cafe or courtyard garden. Chessell Pottery has won the Best Island Cream Tea for 2009/10 & 2010/11.

We have gluten free scones available to order, plus a delicious home made dairy and gluten free cake option. Daily home cooked soup is always totally Vegan.

and baby come too...

We can serve small portions of soup and other dishes on the menu for children, as well as offering a 'children's lunch bag' with nice treats like 'naked Tyrrells English crisps' for the little ones to eat. We provide boiling water or can warm milk bottles in the microwave for our customers with babies.

"are we there yet?"

We are located on Brook Road which is off the B3401 main Newport to Freshwater Road. Unfortunately the nearest bus only goes to our neighbouring village of Brook.

...got any top tips?

During school holidays it is advisable to book a decorating table in the studio as we get extremely busy, especially when it's raining! Check our website for current offers and events.
