About Chartwell Home of Churchill

Enter the family home of Churchill, Chartwell House and Gardens. This impressive National Trust attraction offers families the chance to feel close to the iconic War-time Prime Minister through fascinating experiences, personal mementoes, and fun activities.

If you've got school-age kids or budding historians, they'll LOVE a day of exploration at Chartwell. It offers the perfect mix of history and fun! Enjoy great activities like the natural play area, tours around the historic house, fun family trails and exciting seasonal events. And there's a chance to bag some goods from the shop and cafe too!

Summer of play at Chartwell 22 July to 31 August
Seasonal National Trust events are always widely anticipated and this amazing attraction has announced its new Summer of Play event!

Explore all 80 acres of Sir Winston Churchill’s family home, gardens and the rolling countryside in magical family activities. Go wild in the natural play area or spark imaginations down at the Butterfly House - your little ones will get to dress up and put on a performance for you!

Grab a woodland spotter sheet and take a stroll up to the Canadian camp and two-storey treehouse. Enjoy the rush of endorphins as you get active with dance classes on the lawn with LCA Dance Academy on Thursday mornings (free, booking required).

If you've had your fill of outdoor fun then head back into the house. Here, you'll meet Winston Churchill's soft toys in the study. Think creatively and write a story of their escape back to a natural habitat.

Enhance your Summer with a trip to Chartwell!

Other things to do...
Cure your curiosity with a trip around the historic house! Chartwell has been arranged and decorated as it was in the 1930s. Make your way through rooms that have been displayed as if the family have just left them. Explore the museum rooms filled with gifts to the Churchills, and see the personal possessions that Winston and his family kept here.

These intriguing behind-the-scenes insights are almost irresistible!

Get some fresh air in the beautiful gardens! You can catch a tour of the garden every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 2pm. Winston Churchill loved the hillside gardens and they include the lakes he created himself as well as Lady Churchill's famous rose garden, the traditional kitchen garden and a playhouse built for Mary Soames. You can catch a tour of the garden every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 2pm.

There is also a natural-style playground to be found here and excitingly a special place littered with sticks to build dens with! Add in the family picnic spots, and circular family trails and you've got all the makings of a lovely afternoon with as much education, or leisure, as you want from it.

Food & Drink
Stop by the Landemare Café and munch on a wide variety of tasty treats from hot food, cold food, hot drinks and refreshing cold drinks. You'll love taking a hearty bite into a scrumptious scone while you overlook the beautiful gardens.
