There are lots of interactive exhibits: you can dig through the layers of history and find out why archaeologists like old rubbish, peep under rocks, in cracks and crevices to find the hidden creatures or zoom-in on a centipede's head with the video microscope.

The museum has two temporary exhibition galleries and a regularly changing programme of exhibitions on key local themes as well as national and international subjects.

There are special events, family fun days and 'hands-on' workshops throughout the year.

The museum cafe offers a wide selection of food and drinks including baguettes, filled rolls, baked potatoes with various fillings, soup, coffee, tea and a children�s menu.

The museum is fully accessible to all visitors with level access, adapted toilets and baby-changing facilities, braille labels and an hearing induction loop.
