Catalyst is an interactive science centre whose aim is to make science exciting and accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

In addition to the three hands-on galleries visitors can experience an amazing journey of discovery in our interactive Alchemy Theatre.

Learn all about recycling, save the world or see how cancer drugs are developed. With sections in 3D and interactive voting, our films are sure to absorb both children and adults alike.

During school holidays Catalyst has a fascinating programme of activities for families. These workshops and shows are extremely popular so tickets are limited and are issued on a first come first served basis. Have a go at fabric printing, discover how to make super sized bubbes or experiment with Kitchen Chemistry – see our website for full programme.

Our café is the perfect place to enjoy a variety of hot and cold drinks and snacks with views out over Spike Island and the Mersey Estuary. High Chairs are also provided for toddlers.

Catalyst offers various vegetarian options, freshly made salads, fresh fruit, smoothies and fruit and cereal bars.

The Catalyst gift shop offers a wide range of intriguing scientific toys, books and souvenirs to serve as a reminder of your day. We also sell a range of local interest postcards, books and souvenirs.

Our toilet facilities include fully accessible facilities for disabled visitors and a separate room with baby changing facilities.

Although Catalyst does not sell baby food we can provide hot water for parents to warm milk.

Catalyst is easily accessible from anywhere in the North West, Junction 7 M62 or Junction 12 M56. Head towards Widnes then follow the brown and white tourism signs. We have a large free car park or there is limited car parking on the roadside adjacent to the building for those with limited mobility. Nearest railyway station is Runcorn which is a short bus or taxi ride away.
