Canterbury Spy Mission Trail

"what are we doing today?"

The fun way to explore Canterbury!
The Canterbury Spy Mission Trail is one of over 850 brilliant family Trails in the UK, aimed at getting everyone out and about exploring.

Simply purchase a Trail booklet, then, at your leisure, begin your Trail. Follow the directions, hunt for clues, find hidden treasures, learn facts and enjoy the sights as you work together to find the code to de-activate the dastardly device!

Treasure Trails offers a number of puzzle-themed walks all over London and the UK so you can have fun discovering the treasures all around us. You can work out the secret code in a spy mission, a hidden treasure map location, or find out whodunnit in a detective mystery-style adventure. Children will enjoy helping to look out for clues and those with reading and number skills can help solve the clues too. Great for working as a team!

This Trail is about 2 miles and takes just under 2 hours to complete. It’s a circular walk taking in the medieval city centre lanes, Dane John Park, the Castle, Greyfriars, West Gate and the Marlowe Theatre before you finish back in the Butter Market.

This and other Trails can be adapted for parties (up to 50 people), please contact Treasure Trails for details.

Purchase your Trail from our website as a download or order a ready-printed booklet.

"i'm hungry"

With its city-based location, the Canterbury Spy Mission Trail includes a number of places to stop for refreshment on the route. The Trail starts and ends in the city centre so there is plenty of choice. There are also three parks on the way which would be nice settings for a picnic.

"i need a wee"

There are public conveniences on this route, and plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants with facilities.

"are we there yet?"

The Canterbury Spy Mission Trail starts in the very centre of Canterbury outside the Visitor Centre on Sun Street. There is ample parking in the city but the efficient park and ride scheme from Wincheap is especially recommended. Canterbury is also accessible by rail (East and West stations in the City run from London Victoria) and coach services.

...got any top tips?

The Canterbury Spy Mission Trail is circular and fairly flat but some steps and one particularly steep hill make the activity unsuitable for wheelchairs. Pushchair users should have no problems. Part of the Trail passes near to the river so caution is recommended with younger children. The parks and meadows are a nice place for a picnic though.
