Cairngorm Reindeer Centre

"what are we doing today?"

There are currently around 150 reindeer at the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, approximately 50 of them ranging the Cairngorm Mountains and the remainder on the Glenlivet Estate, the locations being some 30 miles apart.

There is a daily visit to the reindeer, weather permitting, departing from Reindeer House at 11am.

There is an additional visit at 2.30pm during the Summer months. During the Winter months, the visit may be dependent on whether we can find them. We say they're free-ranging and we meant it! We're also potentially talking a solid 30 minute walk over rough, snowy and icy terrain, so you must be well equipped with appropriate clothing and footwear and have a fair level of fitness.

Under the supervision of their trained guides, visitors can feed and stroke the reindeer. A treasured memory for any child and fantastic fodder for family photos!

It can be muddy at the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre so please remember your wellies or boots! Wellies can be hired at the Centre along with kiddy carrier backpacks as the walk is not suitable for buggies. The Hill Visit is not suitable for wheelchairs either. For those unable to make it onto the hill we have a small group of reindeer in the paddock, accessible for all, from Easter to New Year.

"Can I have one of those?"

Browse our gift shop for unique reindeer themed gifts, and for an unusual gift why not adopt one of our reindeer for a friend (or yourself)!

"are we there yet?"

The Cairngorm Reindeer Centre is easily accessible by car. From the A9, follow signs for Aviemore. Once in Aviemore turn up towards the Cairngorm Mountains at the roundabout at the south end of the village (it has an Italian restaurant next to it!) Follow the road towards the mountains, we are about 6 miles from Aviemore, you will see our signs in Glenmore.
