CairnGorm Mountain

"what are we doing today?"

The railway at CairnGorm Mountain is an exciting way to see this unique area.

Look out for reindeer and some of Britain’s most famous birds. At the top you can visit the viewing terrace to see a fantastic mountain panorama. During summer our visitor guides are there to answer your questions about the history and legends of the mountain. They can also tell you about the special weather conditions we have, similar to the Arctic Circle, which influences everything that grows, lives, works and plays here. During the summer we have guided walks with experienced Rangers that are great for the family to enjoy together.

At the Base Station we have a mountain garden with examples of all the rare plants that can be found on the mountain. There is also the Camera Obscura which projects onto a table a 360 degree view of the surrounding area. And, from time to time, our play igloo makes an appearance at various locations.

Every Thursday evening in July and August we hold Highland Fling Ceilidh nights in the Ptarmigan Restaurant. These are great fun for all the family with a traditional Highland buffet followed by dancing to a ceilidh band. If you don’t know the dances, we teach them to you.

During winter, there is a lot of fun to be had on the snow, either on skis, snowboard or in the sledge park. We have ski instructors who can teach you all you need to know and equipment hire if you don’t have your own.

We have disabled access to all areas.

"i'm hungry"

CairnGorm Mountain has two places to eat: the Cas Bar in the Day Lodge sells a range of sandwiches, homemade soup, home baking, other light refreshments, hot and cold drinks. Located at the Top Station the Ptarmigan Restaurant is the UK’s highest restaurant. This is a great place to enjoy lunch with a view, a hot drink with home baking, or sample a Speyside malt or Cairngorm ale. A children’s menu is also available.

healthy food

We have vegetarian and gluten free options available in our restaurants and can cater for special dietary requirements at our ceilidh nights (with prior notice).

"Can I have one of those?"

At our two shops, The Mountain Shop and Shop at the Top, we have a great selection of books, jewellery, aromatics, candles, clothing, exclusive panoramic mountain prints, sweets, toys, pottery, gemstones, crystals and our own Ptarmigan 15 year old single malt whisky. Our products are unusual, imaginative, local, fairly traded and sustainable.

"i need a wee"
