Brora Beach

This is a sandy beach with Jurassic rocks, whose special appeal is the regular appearance of dolphins, minke whales, and grey and common seals off the coastline - so take your binoculars! Great for sand castling while you wait though so bucket and spade at the ready. The 2 mile beach is mostly sand with a shingle channel around the river which flows into the north sea. Swimming is safe except around the river where there are submerged rock piles. The Jurassic rocks are fossil heavy, and you may find smaller ones around after bad weather so keep 'em peeled and wear big pockets!
