The British Schools Museum in Hitchin is the place where learning really comes to life.

You can follow our family discovery trail dressed as a Victorian boy or girl or enjoy a guided tour (included in admission price).

Play with Victorian toys, games and puzzles, sit at the old desks and practice your lettering in sand or on a slate and visit the Headmaster’s House to see how a Victorian family lived.

The British Schools Museum is opposite the ASDA supermarket in Hitchin. By road, take the Stevenage North exit from the A1(M) and follow the A602 towards Hitchin. Take the 4th exit at the ‘Three Moorhens’ roundabout. At the bottom of the hill take the 2nd exit at the roundabout and the museum is about 200 meters on the right hand side of the road. Although we only have disabled parking (by prior arrangement) there is ample parking in the town. We are only 1 mile from Hitchin Railway Station (40 mins from London Kings Cross) and 5 minutes walk from the main bus stops.

The majority of the site is accessible to wheelchair users. A parking space can be arranged but please phone in advance.
