Attraction Information
Braemar Castle is an awesome looking place where you can enjoy a guided tour, learning about colourful characters, villains and ghosts, and Jacobites and their fashions. Ask your guide about the “Black Colonel” and his fellow phantoms!
The place started as a hunting lodge but ended up being associated with three uprisings, being burned and then as a garrison for Hanoverian soldiers to stop anyone breaking the law, carrying weapons or even wearing tartan!
There are hidden teddy bears to hunt for as you travel through the different rooms and find out about the history of the castle from the friendly local guides.
There are seven floors, linked by a steep spiral stone staircase, which might not be suitable for those who have difficulty with mobility. There is a level courtyard and garden, plus an exhibition in a cabin to view.
Check online to see the events that are held during the year, which have included ‘Living History' Days, Kilted walks and a spooky Hallowe'en evening for the family.
